Plot and Conflicts- 

 

1.  As the book starts out a man named Amir jan living in San Fransisco , California,  receives a phone call from a dear friend from Afghanistan, were Amir janused to live, named Raheim Khan.  He asked Amir jan to make a trip to Pakistan to come see him.

 

2.  After hanging up with Raheim Khan, Admir jan went for a walk to reflect back on his childhood in Kabul.

 

 

Flashbacks of life of Kabul

 

1.  Amir jan begins thinking of their servant, Ali, and his son Hassan, who he mostly hung out with.  Most Afgans in Kabul are Sunny and Pashtun while Hassan and his father are Shi't and Hazzara.

 

2.  Visualizes reading stories up the hill to Hassan because he was illiterate.

 

3.  Amir jan and Hassan fly and run kites in the winter time in Kabul.  His memories of Hassan helping him come up.

 

4.  Remembers making his dad proud by winning the kite flying tournament with the help of Hassan.

 

5.  Visualizes the rape of Hassan by the bullies, Assef, Kamal, and Wallie, in the alley that Hassan ran to with Admir's prize kite.  Remembers how he stood there in the distance and watched without intervening.

 

6.  Throughout all of Amir jan's childhood he strived for his father, Baba's,  attention and approval.  Even though Baba treated Amir jan and Hassan the same.

 

 

 

Pages 80-165

Plots and Conflicts

 

1. Amir jan remembers of how horrible he felt for not sticking up for Hassan while getting raped and decides that one of them would have to leave.

 

2.  Amir jan does everything in his power to avoid Hassan because he is ashamed of what he has done.

 

3.  Amir jan tries to get Hassan to fight him up on the hill were they read.  Amir jan torments him by throwing Pomegranites at him to make him angry, but does not succeed.

 

4. Amir jan puts his own money and watch under Hassan's bed to set him up.  After found Ali decides that he and his son will have to leave because it's done with and can't be taken back.

 

5.  Ali and Hassan move away.

 

6.  The king, Nazir Shah, was overruled and the Russians soon took over Kabul.

 

7.  Baba and Amir jan leave Kabul for Pakistan as refugees.

 

8.  From Pakistan Baba and Amir jan travel to their new home in the United States, Fremont, California.

 

9.  Amir jan attends high school now in the United States, while Baba works at a gas station.

 

10.  Baba and Amir jan start selling used goods at the swap meet (market) and see other Afghans selling other goods.

 

11.  Amir jan meets his future wife, Soraya, at the swap meet.

 

12.  Baba gets sick in the United States.  Later finds out he has terminal cancer and decides not to prolong it by denying treatment.

 

13.  While Baba still can, Amir jan asked him to go to the General , Soraya's dad, for permission to marry his daughter.  The General accepts.

 

 

Pages 166-227

Plots and Conflicts

 

1.  Amir jan and Soraya get married with an Afghan ceremony.  Baba giving nearly his entire life savings for the ceremony.

 

2.  Soraya moves in with Baba and Amir jan.  She takes care of Baba at his end stage.

 

3.  Baba dies in the comfort of his home.

 

4.  Soraya wants to get away from her side of the family so her and Amir jan move to San Fransico.

 

5.  Amir jan gets accepted at San Jose State for an English degree, publishes his first novel, and took a security job at a furniture warehouse.

 

6.  Soraya and Amir jan try to get pregnant with no success.  Amir jan gets tested and passes to see that it is not him.  In the next months to follow Soraya starts doctoring to find out the problem.  They finally decide they cannot have kids.

 

7.  Amir jan puts a down payment on a house from his advancement of his second novel.

 

8.  Amir jan recieves a phone call from Rahim Khan. Rahim Khan informs him that he still has a chance to be good again.

 

9.  Amir jan tells his wife he needs to make a visit to Pakistan to see Rahim Khan.

 

10.  When Amir jan arrives in Pakistan Rahim Khan tells him he has known the secret all along and that Hassan is his brother.

 

11.  Rahim Khan tells Amir jan that he needs to go to Afghanistan to bring back Hassan's son, Sohrab, because his parents have been killed by the Taliban and is in an orphanage.

 

 

Pages 228-371                                                                        

Plots and Conflicts

 

 

1.  Amir jan decides to go to Kabul, Afghanistan where the orphanage is, with Farid his guide.

 

2.  Amir jan experiences the destruction of his homeland by the Taliban.

 

3.  Amir jan goes to the orphanage and finds out  that Sohrab is not there, because he was purchased by a Talib. The orphanage conductor told him he can find the Talib at Gazi stadium the following day.

 

4.  Amir jan and Farid went to the stadium and found the Talib and made an appointment with him at a house.

 

5.  Amir jan went inside the house with Farid staying in the car.

 

6.  Amir jan finds out that the Talib is Assef and he molested Sohrab

 

7.  Amir jan fights Assef for Sohrab and gets beaten very badly.

 

8.  Sohrab shoots Assef in the eye with a slingshot, so he and Amir jan can escape back to Pakistan.

 

 

9.  Farid drives Amir Jan and Sohrab to a hospital in Peshawar, Pakistan.

 

10. Amir jan wakes up in a hospital in Peshawar, Pakistan and decides that he needs to go to Islamabad, Pakistan as soon as he gets better for safety from Talibs.

 

11. Amir jan and Sohrab go to Islamabad, Pakistan and get a hotel, while Amir Jan tries to find a way to bring Sohrab back to America and at the same time has Soraya in search of ways also.

 

12.  After Amir jan recovered he made a promise to Sohrab that he would never let him go back to an orphanage.

 

13.  Amir jan goes to legal places to try and get Sohrab into the United States and adopt him, but everywhere he went people told him there wasn't much luck that it was going to happen.

 

14.  Sohrab hears the news of this and is very disappointed.

 

15.  Then Amir jan gets a phone call from his wife with the news that she found a way to get Sohrab over to the United States.  As Amir jan goes to tell Sohrab the news in the bathroom he finds Sohrab with blood all over himself in the bathtub because he was trying to kill himself.  Amir jan rushes him to the nearest hospital.

 

16. Sohrab had life threatening cuts and was admitted into the intensive care unit.

 

17.  When Sohrab recovered Amir jan told him the news that they found a way for him to go to the United States.  Sohrab didn't have much of a response he was pretty quiet with trust issues.

 

18.  When released from the hospital they fly back to the United States.

 

19.  Sohrab met Soraya right away at the airport.

 

20.  It wasn't long before Sohrab went to meet Soraya's family, the General and Khala Jamila.

 

21.  At the table there was a little dispute when General Taheri asked Amir jan what he was doing having an adopted son that was Hazara.  Amir jan told the General that it was his nephew and he was never to talk of that word, Hazara, again.

 

22.  Amir jan and Soraya take Sohrab to the park.  At the park they see kids flying kites and a kite vendor there too.  Amir jan buys Sohrab a kite.

 

23.  Sohrab was a little hesitant at first but then teamed up and challenged another kite.  Amir jan ran the kite like Hassan use to in the past.  They won the challenge and Amir jan looked back and said to him, "For you, a thousand times over",  which was once said by Hassan (page 371).

The format should be fixed in the sense that there is alot of empty space between sentences and paragraphs. It seems to us that the cite is written in an unprofessional matter.
