Other Minor Characters

People who may have a major impact on other characters, but who only recieve a passing mention in the novel

  

 

Sanaubar: Wife of Ali. Five days after Hassan's birth, she ran off with wandering musicians and was described as quite promiscuous. Returns, briefly, near end to redeem herself.

 

Sophia: Amir's mother who descended from royalty and died from a hemorrage during childbirth in 1963 (1964 suggested by another group).

 

Kamal & Wali: followers of Assef.

 

Dr. Kumar: A plastic surgeon who fixes Hassan’s cleft lip

 

Mrs. Dobbins: Social worker in San Diego who helps Baba and Amir.

 

Karim: He is not an important part of the story except at the check point when Amir and Baba are being smuggled into Pakistan.

 

Mr. and Mrs. Nguyen: Although they are not mentioned a lot, they do play an important role in showing how different things in America are compared to Afghanistan

 

Dr. Amani: Afghan doctor who diagnoses Baba with lung cancer

 

Farzana: Wife of Hassan.

 

King Nadir Shar: Ruler of Afghanistan in the 60s/70s

 

Daoud Khan: New ruler of Afghanistan after Nadir Shah

 

Rahim Khan: Friend of Baba and Amir. He told Amir about Hassan being his brother and how he died. He also told Amir about Hassan's son, Sohrab.

 

Allah's: The gods the people pray to.

 

Kaka Farid: Rahim Khan introduced Amir to him. He drove Amir to find Sohrab.

 

Raymond Andrews: Gets Amir and Sohrad with the lawyer

 

John And Berry Caldwell: Friends of Farid

 

Sohrab: Amir's nephew

 

Zaman: The director of the orphanage that Sohrab was sold from.

 

Thomas and Betty Caldwell: The Christian couple in Peshwar that were running a house for children who lost their families. They may have never existed. Rahim Khan may have made them up.

 

Mr. Faisal: the lawyer who helped get Sohrab into the United States.

 

Mr. Andrews: the lawyer who denyed them help.

 

Mr. Fayyaz: the hotel manager.

 

Dr. Nawaz: the doctor who was there for Sohrab when he slit his wrists.
